One Love Festival 2021: an Oasis of Music, Art and Yoga in the Desert

Festivals have returned—nature is healing!

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re a music junkie, like me. As I type this article, I’m still in disbelief: in just a few weeks I’ll be surrounded by my friends while dancing under the stars to live music! The last year has been difficult for music lovers as there is no true substitute for live music and festivals. Well, I’m thrilled to announce the wait is over and festivals have returned. I’m ecstatic to celebrate my first festival in over a year with One Love Festival in Dolan Springs, Arizona, from May 28-30, 2021.

Only an hour south of Las Vegas, this intimate festival has reduced their overall capacity and is COVID-compliant (explained in detail below). If you don’t have plans this Memorial Day weekend, join me for three days of music, yoga, art, workshops and dancing! All of us are overdue for a therapeutic weekend of dancing.  

ONE LOVE FESTIVAL 2021 LINEUP

Headlining this year is three-time Grammy-nominated Paul Oakenfold, regarded as the “grandfather of electronic music.” With over 110 million streams, 5 million albums sold and countless awards, Oakenfold is one of the most successful electronic producers of our time. I’ve never seen him, but have heard great things about his live performances. Joining him are Desert Dwellers, Ahee, An-Ten-Nae, Mikey Lion, Moon Hooch, Lapa, Volo, Mark London, Tropo and Saqi, to name a few. I’m loving the variety in genres represented—trance, house, bass, chillstep, drum and bass, trip-hop and everything in between. I’ve linked a playlist featuring all of the artists to get you pumped. WORKSHOPS & ACTIVITIES

This will be my first year attending One Love, which is also in a new venue. Festival founder Kenneth Schwenker said they are taking inspiration from Burning Man this year with the addition of more art installations, live art/painting and art cars. I’m told there is an entire stage dedicated to art cars, and while I can’t imagine what that looks like, I’m intrigued. I’ve never been to Burning Man or seen proper art cars, so I’m looking forward to exploring them. I’ll be sure to document them—don’t worry. 

In addition to the music, this festival will offer workshops galore on topics such as breathwork, chakra yoga, sound healing, conscious consumerism, henna art therapy, soul hugs, acro yoga and more. Having opportunities to learn and grow at festivals is wonderful; I plan to participate in as many workshops as possible. The Yoga & Workshops lineup is almost as long as the artist lineup, giving attendees an abundance of ways to reconnect to themselves and others over the weekend. The full workshop menu is below.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

Let’s address the elephant in the room: COVID-19. The state of Arizona is a mask free state but One Love strongly encourages you to protect yourself and others by wearing a mask. Masks are required upon entry. We at Festival Squad urge you to adhere to all festival health guidelines and respect those around you—safety of attendees is paramount. Please respect everyone’s personal space and if someone requests that you wear a mask while speaking with them, please respect their boundaries. Additionally, while inside a bathroom or waiting in a vending line, we ask you to please wear your mask at that time.
