Photos by VALASEK for Ocaso Festival
Ocaso is an all techno festival located in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Tamarindo is on the Pacific side of Costa Rica in the Guanacaste province and is one of the most popular destinations in Costa Rica. It’s known for it’s expat community, boujee hotels and ample amounts of Starbucks. However, Tamarindo brings in two techno festivals this year, the long standing Ocaso Festival and the newly announced BPM Costa Rica. Ocaso has been a staple festival in Tamarindo for many years and has always had a great techno lineup. 2020 will be no different with headliners Maceo Plex, Âme, Maetrik and Seth Troxler. Check out the full lineup below.
So who should you not miss at this year’s Ocaso. Festival Squad picked out four of our favorite artists from the lineup. Check out who are favorites are!
ARTBAT
ARTBAT is a duo from Ukraine that produce melodic house and techno. The name ARTBAT comes from a combination of the duo’s two first names: Artur and Batish. Since starting to make music in 2015, the duo from Kiev have put out many releases across a few genres. Their famous techno single “Mandrake” was in the Beatport Top 100 chart and has remained steadily since. In 2017, their single “Uplift” made it to the number 5 spot on Beatport’s Tech House charts and number 9 in all genres. Now you can hear ARTBAT playing techno parties all over the world including at Ibiza and Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio for Circle.
Justin Martin
Justin Martin is one of the legends on the record label Dirtybird. Dirtybird, known for it’s funky tech house producers, was created by Claude VonStroke, although Justin Martin is the second main man. Justin has been producing tech house bangers forever but also creates tracks across a wide array of genres. From drum n bass to minimal house to ambient beats, Justin Martin can kind of do it all.
Shiba San
Shiba San is another Dirtybird regular, releasing tracks on Dirtybird for years. The Frenchman also has his own record label, Basement Leak, which releases tracks from other artists like Gettoblaster, Black V Neck and Tim Baresko. Shiba San is all over the house world, having guest performances on Relief Podcast, Will Clarke’s The Barber Shop, Sonny Fodera’s AARIVAL, All My Friends Radio and more and also playing almost every festival in existence.
Seth Troxler
Seth Troxler is originally from the MidWest – Detroit to be exact. He comes from a family of Midwestern cowboys and Baptist preachers, part African-American/Egyptian/Cherokee Native American and now produces minimal techno and plays around the world, including a residency in Ibiza. His most recent album “Lost Souls of Saturn” came out only 5 months ago. Besides producing just techno he also produces tracks across the board – including Chicago house, indie beats, and psychedelic ambient tracks.
