Don Idio for Festival Squad
Okeechobee is set to make its triumphant return in March 2020. With the festival being about one month out, it has officially released the Phase 2 lineup. While we were already impressed, we have even more to be excited about with this new announcement.
GRIZ IS BACK
We’re going to start with our favorite announcement! Look back at the Phase 2 poster and re-read the second line for Sunday. The one, the only, Griz was announced, presumably as a closer, for the return. He has not graced the Okee stage since 2017. There is a big question though, will he bring the live band or are we in for a treat with a DJ set? Regardless, Griz is going to throw down a funky good time.
We’ll be honest, we would love for it to be a live band but could see the potential for surprise appearances from other acts. At FriendShip this year we saw Griz perform with Boogie T.rio and he is known for sharing the stage with Big Gigantic.
Could either of these cross overs happen?
It’s possible!
POWOW Performers Announced
Vampire Weekend friends have officially been announced as the POWOW performers. For seasoned Okee veterans, this is a staple of the festival. In the inaugural year, the super jam set was led by Miguel, Win Butler of Arcade Fire, John Oates, George Porter Jr, Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford, Tom Morello, Chris Karns (Pretty Lights), Zigaboo Modeliste, and Kamasi Washington, with special appearances by Mac Miller & Skrillex.
In years that followed, the POWOW didn’t disappoint. Big names like Chaka Khan, Griz, Big Gigantic, Solange, The Roots, Snarky Puppy, and Snoop Dogg were a part of the highly anticipated tradition.
There is always a mysterious aura around who will appear at the festival’s super jam but, we know that this is THE SET to see. We wouldn’t be surprised if past performers like Big Gigantic and Griz take the stage again.
Day Changes
Lastly, there have been a few changes in the day by day schedule. One we specifically want to point out is Clairo will now be performing on Saturday. While this may not affect many schedules, she is on our list of performers to see. The 21 year old Boston native became widely popular with her 2017 hit, Pretty Girl. Despite internet controversy, the songwriter has persevered and booked many big name festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella. Keep an eye on her because soon fans will be flocking to see her headline. If you can’t catch her set at Okee, you can see her on tour with Tame Impala this fall.
Okeechobee released many more local, underground, and up-and-coming artist on this phase 2 release. Expect to see a few more acts added to the bill before March.
Who?
We’re not sure and seeing how diverse this line-up is, it could be anyone.
The Florida festival makes it grand return on March 5 – 8, 2020. Tickets, camping, and shuttle passes can be purchased HERE. You do not want to miss being a part of festival history when Okeechobee has the best comeback yet.
